Gimenez reported a very poor season at Milan, agreeing that criticism was warranted because he did not score a single league goal. He had scored five goals and provided three assists in his first six months, raising expectations for 2025-26. He played in the first nine league matches without scoring, managed only one Coppa Italia goal, then suffered an injury that required surgery. He returned for the final nine league games but again failed to score. Speaking during Mexico’s World Cup preparations, he said Milan must reach the Champions League and fight for the top, and that the club did not meet its goal.
"“I think the fans' criticism was justified. I have been rightly criticised. Fans want to win and want to see the striker score goals. "A club like Milan have to be in the Champions League and fight for the top. We have not managed to reach our goal, you cannot afford this in such a big club. "I can say that I was never at my best. First I got injured then, I was not 100% fit. It has been a difficult season but at the end the numbers are in front of everyone. It was a bad season," he stated."
