New San Siro designers provide statement after confirmation: "We are honoured"
"We are grateful to the Mayor for his hospitality and the time he dedicated to us. While we wait for the process to be finalised, it was an opportunity to share the spirit and ambition that inspire the project. We are indeed grateful to Oaktree and RedBird for entrusting Foster + Partners and MANICA with the opportunity to design the new stadium for Inter and AC Milan, and we are honoured."
"It has been a challenging process, but AC Milan and Inter have got a deal with the Milan City Council to purchase San Siro and the land around it. A new stadium has been on the cards for years now, but Milan and Inter have only just got it over the line. Even then, though, we cannot get overly excited, with a complaints process to proceed with. With that said, it should not affect anything."
AC Milan and Inter reached an agreement with the Milan City Council to purchase San Siro and the surrounding land. The clubs engaged internationally recognised architecture firms Foster + Partners and MANICA, led by Lord Norman Foster and David Manica, to design a new stadium. Plans are expected within the next 12 months. A complaints process remains outstanding but should not impede progress. Club representatives, fund representatives and Mayor Beppe Sala met with the designers to certify the awarding of the project. The designers expressed gratitude to Oaktree and RedBird and emphasised commitment to Milan’s cultural and sporting heritage.
