
In the 71st minute VAR chief Aureliano summoned referee Simone Sozza to the monitor to review contact between Pavlovic and Thuram. Aureliano described the challenge as reckless and recommended an on-field review for a possible penalty to Inter. Sozza reviewed the footage, judged the tackle to warrant a penalty and allowed the kick, with a yellow card indicated for Pavlovic. Other incidents, including a Lautaro elbow and an Acerbi hair-pull, were not punished. Referee designator Gianluca Rocchi supported the procedure, stating that OFRs are appropriate for reckless fouls and that the intervention and sanction were correct.
