San Jose's Emma Prusch Farm Park officials are seeking the return of six stolen animals, notably a pet turkey named Megara. Surveillance showed a suspect stealing a 5-month-old turkey and later, five chickens from the park's chicken coop. One chicken was found dead. Park spokesperson Amanda Rodriguez expressed that the thefts were rare and shocking, stating the animals are vital for children's education. The park's barn is currently closed as staff enhances security measures. Officials released footage to aid in recovery efforts, hoping the animals are alive.
"There have been break-ins at the park but nothing like stealing an animal," Rodriguez told SFGATE.
"They jumped the fence and grabbed one of the baby turkeys, a female. We think he put it up his sweatshirt and left with her," Rodriguez told SFGATE.
Rodriguez said the theft was "heartbreaking" for the staff and said the animals are a key part of learning for students at the onsite preschool.
"The hope is that the animals are OK and alive and that they can come back to the farm," she said.
