Hilda Perez, a resident of Forest Grove, emphasizes the importance of public transportation while advocating for improved accessibility in Oregon, especially for families relying on limited transit. After moving to an area with insufficient transportation options, she now faces significant challenges traveling to her nearest bus stop. Her calls for change were echoed during a rally where advocates highlighted the pressing need for an inclusive transportation system benefiting all Oregonians, particularly marginalized communities who face the greatest transportation hurdles. The Oregon Legislature is considering a multibillion-dollar transportation package aimed at addressing these issues.
"I've had to rely more and more on my young children and my husband just to get where I need to go. That is not right," Perez said.
"The transportation system of today has big gaps. We're all seeing it, that's why we're here. And those gaps limit some people more than others," Indi Namkoong noted.
