Bay Area middle schoolers help improve $55 million bus system
Briefly

Two teenagers in Marin County were inspired to take action about their transit service's unreliability after conducting a survey among classmates. They petitioned Marin Transit to enhance bus routes that are vital for students without access to cars. Their advocacy and initiative have led to significant improvements in bus service set for summer 2023, responding to community needs for more reliable travel options. General Manager Nancy Whelan acknowledged the service challenges while highlighting the importance of addressing these students' concerns.
It really means a lot that we're able to have this change,” Zeya Bishay, one of the students, said in a public comment during the transit district's board.
Nancy Whelan, the transit system's general manager, explained, 'There are limited roadways and limited options. If there are traffic concerns anywhere... it's tricky to stay on schedule.'
