
EMT Palma is introducing 23 BYD Castrosua Nelec 12-metre battery-electric buses as part of a fleet renewal programme targeting up to 113 zero-emission buses. The buses use a chassis provided by BYD and are built with the Spanish bodybuilder Castrosua, following a 2022 partnership deal. The vehicles entered presentation on 21 May and are gradually joining service on multiple urban routes. The framework agreement covers up to 113 electric buses with planned investment above €98 million, with an additional 34 electric buses expected from June. The 23 buses cost €573,000 each and are funded through Balearic Islands Energy Transition Investment Plan resources, NextGenerationEU, ERDF, sustainable tourism tax contributions, the city of Palma, and EMT funds. Charging infrastructure is also being expanded at depots.
