Tesla Claims Full Self-Driving Is Coming to Europe Soon. Regulators Say Nope
"Tesla took to X over the weekend to say that the Netherlands' automotive regulatory body had "committed" to approve Full Self-Driving for the country in February of next year. That, Tesla said, would pave the way for its flagship driver-assistance feature to spread across the EUa milestone in its efforts to eventually spread autonomous driving tech far and wide. RDW, the safety regulator in question, has a different read on the situation."
""Both RDW and Tesla are aware of the efforts needed to reach a decision on this matter in February. Whether this timeline will be met is yet to be determined in the coming period," RDW said in the statement. "The RDW has drawn up a schedule with Tesla in which Tesla is expected to be able to demonstrate that FSD Supervised meets the requirements in February 2026," it added."
Tesla claimed the Netherlands' automotive regulator had committed to approving Full Self-Driving in February 2026, which could enable EU rollout and new revenue. The Dutch regulator RDW countered that no commitment to approval has been made and said whether the February timeline will be met is still to be determined. RDW and Tesla agreed on a schedule for Tesla to demonstrate that FSD Supervised meets requirements in February 2026, but approval is not guaranteed. Full Self-Driving remains a supervised driver-assistance system rather than fully autonomous, and regulatory approval processes will determine its European availability.
