iOS 26.4 developer beta begins testing end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging within Apple's ecosystem. Initial tests limit encryption to Apple devices and are not yet testable with other platforms. E2EE RCS will not ship with iOS 26.4 and will arrive in a future public update. RCS enhances texting between iPhone and Android, and cross-platform encryption has been missing. The GSM Association started working on E2EE for the RCS Universal Profile in September 2024, and Apple committed to supporting E2EE RCS across its platforms in future updates.
