Smartwatches now monitor heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen and can detect irregularities via ECG. Sam Adams, 57, began receiving repeated Apple Watch alerts about an abnormally low heart rate after returning from Costa Rica. She experienced fatigue and persistent frontal headaches, which she initially attributed to stress, grief, and jet lag. A pharmacist blood pressure check led to further testing that uncovered a manageable heart condition likely causing the alerts. Persistent headaches prompted a CT scan that revealed a previously undiagnosed brain tumour. Doctors determined the tumour is likely benign but inoperable; medication and monthly scans followed.
According to a recent report, an Apple Watch played a critical role in detecting an irregular heartbeat through its ECG (electrocardiogram) function, alerting her to a possible health issue.
I thought it was jet lag - I had really low energy and a dull headache at the front of my head. My Apple Watch also kept saying my heart rate was low,
And I am so grateful for my Apple Watch - I don't know what would have happened if it had not gone off
