iOS 26 adds a hidden AirPods battery tool you'll want to enable immediately - here's how
"If you're like me, the one place you can fall asleep upright is on an airplane, but you need a pair of noise-canceling headphones to do so. Most of the time, I'll fall asleep during a "Real Housewives" scene and wake up two episodes later. Also: Your Sony headphones just got a useful Bluetooth upgrade with the latest software patch"
"With one of the recent iOS 26 software updates, Apple implemented a new sleep detection feature for AirPods. This feature is disabled by default, so you'll need to access your iPhone settings to enable it. If you do, put your AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, or AirPods 4 in your ear and play media. Your AirPods can then detect when you fall asleep and respond by pausing the media."
Certain AirPods models can detect when a wearer falls asleep and automatically pause audio. The feature requires iOS 26 and is available for AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, and AirPods 4. The feature is disabled by default and must be enabled in AirPods settings under "Pause Media When Falling Asleep." The detection likely uses internal accelerometers rather than a heart-rate sensor. Flight tests with AirPods Pro 3 showed the feature paused media a few minutes after falling asleep. AirPods 4 and Pro 2 lack in-ear heart-rate monitoring and are not compatible with heart-rate-based methods.
