The Surface Pro 12 introduces some disappointing design changes, such as the removal of the keyboard's detachability and the dedicated Surface Slim Pen slot. It features a downgraded 1080p front camera, slower USB-C ports, and a sealed chassis that undermines its repairability. It maintains a favorable comparison to the pricier iPad Pro and the lower-powered Surface Go 4, but despite these drawbacks, it remains a slick and appealing device in the 2-in-1 market, especially considering its premium design and usability.
One of my favorite features of the Surface Pro 11th Edition was the ability to use the keyboard when not physically connected to the device, which was handy in various situations.
The Surface Pro 12 loses this feature. The keyboard no longer has a dedicated slot to store the Surface Slim Pen, though it can still magnetize (and wirelessly charge).
The Surface Pro 12 adopts a sealed-up chassis and soldered components, likely due to being fanless, negating features like microSD slot access introduced in previous versions.
While the Surface Pro 12 may fall short in comparison to its predecessor, it remains a compelling option against pricier competitors like the iPad Pro, noting a smooth design.
