Apple's recent update to the Photos app in iOS 26 responds to user complaints about the previous redesign. The app now features distinct tabs for Library and Collections, allowing users to easily navigate their media. This new layout offers a cleaner interface, letting users view their media without the interference of collections. Additionally, the update includes changes to the Camera app, introducing a new viewfinder for video and photo options. Overall, the redesign aims to enhance user experience by maintaining the best elements of previous versions while improving usability.
"Many of you missed using tabs in the Photos app," said Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, in his keynote at WWDC 2025. "Photos now features separate tabs for Library and for Collections."
The Library tab makes it easier to scroll through recent photos without tapping on a collection by mistake. It also looks neater.
