Arsenal’s potential Champions League final win is expected to produce major euphoria across Africa, building on celebrations after the Premier League title win. Fans flooded city centres in Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Kampala, and Lagos, with Zamfara state celebrations continuing despite Boko Haram-linked insecurity. In Kenya, tens of thousands to as many as a million people filled streets and highways in red Arsenal shirts, climbing lamp-posts, waving flags, singing club songs in local languages, and stopping traffic. Celebrations included a pilgrimage to Raila Odinga’s grave and similar car parades and chanting in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa. Uganda’s Nsambya held an all-night vimbisa Arsenal concert, while worshippers wore Arsenal-themed tunics to church or mosque and thanked God for the victory.
