AI skills required for app development according to App Builder report

"App Builder has released the second part of findings from its two-part 2025 App Development Trends Report. The new research reveals that close to 90% of tech leaders are using AI in app development--and they expect developers to have a skill set to match. Nearly three-fourths (71%) of tech leaders say AI and machine learning skills are now non-negotiables for developers as they hire-even more than cloud computing skills, which 53% say the same about."

Close to 90% of tech leaders use AI in application development. Seventy-one percent of tech leaders say AI and machine learning skills are non-negotiable when hiring, surpassing cloud computing (53%). Forty-five percent of companies that do not yet use AI expect to begin adopting it within a year. AI is being applied to streamline development workflows, reshape team structure, influence hiring priorities, and drive organizational strategy shifts. Security is a central focus: 45% cite cybersecurity as a top challenge and nearly all companies using AI apply it to strengthen security through assessments and related measures. Companies emphasize hiring and upskilling developers with AI expertise.
