The 2015 Pixar film Inside Out illustrates a modular view of the brain. Recent scientific advancements mirror this with stem cells forming 3D neural tissue called organoids. These structures evolved into assembloids, which combine distinct brain regions to recreate functional neural networks. While assembloids enhance our understanding of brain connectivity, they still fall short of capturing the brain's intricate, dynamic ecosystem. New techniques are being developed to better simulate brain mechanics and circuit dynamics, facilitating advances in neurodevelopment and drug discovery.
