A study conducted by research teams from the University of Geneva and the University of Bern tested six generative AIs, including ChatGPT, on emotional intelligence assessments designed for humans. The results showed that the AIs exceeded average human performance and were able to develop new testing methodologies much quicker than humans. This breakthrough suggests that such AIs could significantly contribute to areas like education, coaching, and conflict management by providing insights and responses that reflect emotional understanding which were once thought to be exclusive to humans.
The outcome of the tests was remarkable: the AIs surpassed average human performance in emotional intelligence tasks and even created new assessments rapidly.
This study highlights the potential for generative AI to transform fields typically reliant on human emotional capabilities, such as education and conflict resolution.
