Don't panic: AI isn't here for your job (yet)
"It's still very, very early,"
"speaks to how much this debate has, frankly, gotten a little bit out of control."
"It is not the case that ChatGPT is released and people know exactly what to do with their marketing departments the next day,"
"they are expecting the economic impacts to be as sudden and as jarring."
AI has not yet caused major labor-market disruption despite high-profile predictions of rapid job loss. Adoption of powerful tools often takes years, and many employers and workers are still learning how to integrate AI into workflows. Use of AI at work is growing, with over one in five US workers using AI for some tasks and generative tools able to save substantial time for communication-heavy roles. Expectations of sudden, widespread economic upheaval are unrealistic given slow organizational change. The near term will be bumpy as companies redesign processes and roles to augment human work rather than immediately replace it.
