Google has halted the rollout of its AI-powered 'Ask Photos' feature, which employs advanced Gemini AI models. Product manager Jamie Aspinall stated that the feature isn't meeting expectations, particularly concerning latency, quality, and user experience. While users might have experienced limited availability, improvements are in the works, with an updated version expected to address these issues in two weeks. Additionally, Google has enhanced keyword searches in Photos, allowing users to find exact text matches and improve their overall search experience.
"Ask Photos isn't where it needs to be," admitted Jamie Aspinall, citing latency, quality, and user experience as critical factors that led to pausing the rollout.
Aspinall emphasized that the team is working to enhance the feature's performance, which is currently being rolled out to a very small user base.
