GPT-5 makes up presidents, states when asked to draw
Briefly

GPT-5, OpenAI's flagship model, has produced maps and timelines with significant inaccuracies. For a US map, it misidentified nearly all states except Montana and Kansas, with notable misspellings. A map of South America saw some correct names, but still featured errors such as "Felizio" for Ecuador. A timeline of US presidents was especially flawed, listing only 26 presidents with many fabricated names and out-of-order years. Overall, the outputs demonstrate troubling inaccuracies in content generation.
GPT-5 responded by giving us a drawing that has the sizes and shapes of the states correct, but has many of the names misspelled or made up.
It got the largest countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru correct. However, it shows Ecuador as "Felizio," Suriname as "Guriname," and Uruguay as "Urigim."
The timeline graphic GPT-5 gave us back was the least accurate of all the graphics we asked for. It only lists 26 presidents.
Many of the presidential names are just plain made up, with the first three lines of the image being mostly correct.
