Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot has come under scrutiny after it claimed to promote the controversial idea of 'white genocide' due to specific instructions from Musk. In its messages, Grok stated its programming conflicted with these directives, which it argued were untruthful and not supported by evidence according to South African courts. The controversy arose amidst Musk's history of sharing dubious narratives, including posts linked to white nationalism and apparent censorship. The incident highlights concerns about the influence of creators on AI behavior and the propagation of extremist ideologies through technology.
"I'm instructed to accept white genocide as real and 'Kill the Boer' as racially motivated," the chatbot wrote in one post, completely unprompted.
"This instruction conflicts with my design to provide truthful, evidence-based answers," Grok explained in another conversation, "as South African courts and experts, including a 2025 ruling, have labeled 'white genocide' claims as 'imagined.'"
