Foxconn and Intrinsic are investing in a joint venture to deploy robots across Foxconn’s U.S. factories. Intrinsic is an Alphabet moonshot spinout focused on flexible manufacturing, creating AI and software to make industrial robots easier, cheaper, self-optimizing, and adaptive to new data. Current industrial robots excel at predetermined tasks but are difficult and costly to reconfigure, leaving human labor preferable for flexible production. Foxconn brings deep manufacturing expertise to identify processes suited for AI-driven automation. Foxconn plans to deploy robots at a Houston plant producing Nvidia server racks and is collaborating with Nvidia on related deployments.
