A CrowdStrike report assesses cybersecurity readiness among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). While 94% of SMB leaders claim to possess knowledge of cybersecurity threats, only half provide regular employee training. Notably, only 11% utilize AI-driven defenses. A significant 83% have a cyber plan; however, the effectiveness of these plans is questionable as companies with plans face similar breach risks as those without. Particularly troubling is the high percentage of small organizations experiencing ransomware attacks and the increasing sophistication of cybercrime, exacerbated by advancements in AI.
Notably, the report reveals a gap between cyber awareness and preparedness for these organizations. Among SMB leaders, 94% believe they are "somewhat" or "very" knowledgeable about cybersecurity threats; however, less than half offer regular employee training.
The biggest risk AI brings to businesses, both small and large, is the ability for cybercrime to scale quickly. For cyberattackers, this means the ability to launch more attacks with the same resources.
