OpenAI will immediately begin using AWS compute, targeting full deployment of capacity by the end of 2026 with potential expansion into 2027 and beyond. Microsoft lost exclusivity as OpenAI’s cloud provider and first right of refusal to host workloads. OpenAI completed a for-profit restructuring and secured a separate agreement with Microsoft granting rights to its technology until AGI, while retaining the ability to work with third parties and release certain open-weight models. OpenAI also has large Azure and Oracle commitments.
