Proposed moratorium on state-level AI regs aims to level the playing field, lawmaker says
Briefly

Rep. Rich McCormick from Georgia supports a ten-year moratorium on state regulations governing artificial intelligence. He believes this measure, included in the House's latest budget resolution, is essential to prevent conflicting laws from hindering innovation and competition. McCormick emphasizes that a uniform federal approach to AI regulation would create equal opportunities for businesses to thrive, particularly for smaller enterprises wanting to grow. He acknowledges the complexities involved in crafting effective AI laws, calling for a national consensus on safety measures as technology evolves rapidly.
You don't want a bunch of states having cross-contamination of law. If you develop something very good in your state, then you try to market it interstate, and all of a sudden the regulations vary from state-to-state, you're going to die in regulations.
AI development is the centerpiece of the transformation in how humans work. We want to ... make sure that everybody has a crack at this, that they have equal opportunity to develop their mom-and-pop shops into billion-dollar industries.
