USTPO touts success in AI applications
Briefly

The U.S. Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) is committing to generative AI technologies to streamline its operations, addressing past challenges. At a recent discussion, officials emphasized the importance of understanding data structures and ensuring data security in AI implementations. The agency showcased tools like Scout, a chatbot that aids in various functions including code development and cybersecurity detection. Currently supporting over 200 users, Scout is set for a beta release later in the summer. Additionally, the agency highlighted its AI-powered Patents End-to-End Search Tool, which is seeing extensive usage among examiners for retrieving patent data.
"The biggest lesson we learned [when introducing AI] was that all AI requires knowing your data, knowing data structure, data elements, data flow and, most importantly, data security."
"We believe our homegrown GenAI web application, Scout, has already proven its capabilities and look forward to a beta version in late summer."
