Over time they formalise that influence through frameworks, standards and performance metrics. These structures are often necessary, but they also create control. If only one team can execute safely or correctly, that team holds leverage. AI reduces that scarcity."

Traditional large organizations have concentrated authority within specialist gatekeeping functions—IT, procurement, legal, and other departments—that control expertise, set standards, and manage execution. AI is destabilizing this structure by embedding intelligence directly into everyday tools, enabling frontline workers to perform tasks previously requiring central department approval. This shift, similar to the software engineering concept of "shifting left," redistributes power by reducing the scarcity of knowledge and access that specialist functions traditionally leveraged for influence. Rather than eliminating these departments, AI weakens their monopoly by allowing product managers to draft legal documents, marketing teams to localize content, and others to execute specialized work independently with built-in guardrails.
