""Home Away from Home" is the final installment of a broader series of social art presentations called Other Worlds, organized by Colours of Redbridge. The local charity is part of a broader Arts Council England program called Creative People and Places, which focuses on bringing arts and culture to communities where involvement in mainstream culture and creative expression is low relative to others."
""Bespoke panels reflect different themes such as music, sports, local landmarks, pets, and food-all of which are important to local community members and where they live.""
""I've especially loved running the community metal workshops, where participants poured their own ideas into custom panel designs," Jones says."Seeing people grow in confidence and express themselves creatively through metalwork has been a real highlight.""
A community arts program in Redbridge transformed an electric truck into a mobile artwork titled "Home Away from Home," inspired by hand-embellished South Asian trucks. Local groups designed bespoke metal panels reflecting themes such as music, sports, landmarks, pets, and food to express what home means. Pakistani truck artist Abid Bhai created the panels, which were shipped to the UK and affixed by local blacksmith Felicity Jones. London-based artists Momtaz Begum-Hossain, Sheyamali Sudesh, and Bailes+Light contributed. Community metal workshops enabled residents to pour ideas into custom designs and build creative confidence.
