Frank Gehry died at 96 last month. The Wimbledon Concert Hall Trust and Merton Council remain committed to continuing Gehry’s design for a new international concert hall on the council-owned Hartfield Road car park. Proposals unveiled in 2019 envision a 1,500-seat, multi-genre venue with a roof garden and community arts spaces. Private investment will fund the venue, with naming rights offered to major benefactors. Wimbledon was selected for transport links, global recognition from the tennis championships, and an established cultural scene. Project leaders expect the hall to expand Wimbledon's cultural quarter and increase town centre footfall.
