In June, the Fondation Beyeler introduced Jordan Wolfson's 'Little Room,' a unique VR installation that challenges visitors to experience their identities from another's perspective. After undergoing a complete 3D body scan, participants enter a virtual world where they see themselves through the eyes of a partner or stranger. Unlike Wolfson's previous works featuring vivid imagery, 'Little Room' emphasizes an austere experience focused on personal embodiment and the emotional impact rather than visual aesthetics. The installation signifies the interactions between consciousness and the physical self, showcasing art as a medium for profound personal experiences.
When you see yourself, you're wearing your partner. I guess the work starts there: what it feels like to embody another person, which is quite strange.
The intensity of Little Room comes not from complex visual styles but from the acute corporeality and feelings it elicits during the experience.
