June Lockhart died at age 100 of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica. She became a television mother figure for generations of viewers through roles that conveyed warmth and compassion. She portrayed Ruth Martin on Lassie from 1958 to 1964, raising the orphaned Timmy (Jon Provost). She played the Robinson family matriarch aboard the Jupiter II on Lost in Space from 1965 to 1968. She was the daughter of character actor Gene Lockhart and began her career in numerous films, including All This and Heaven Too, Sergeant York, and Meet Me in St. Louis. She pursued adventurous activities offscreen, remained engaged with current news, and later appeared at nostalgia conventions signing autographs for baby boomers.
