Sandra Jackson-Dumont is stepping down as director and CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art after more than five years. Her departure stems from a decision to split her current role into two positions. The museum, co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, is under construction with an expected opening in 2026. Following her exit, Jim Gianopulos will serve as interim CEO. The museum's location has changed several times, initially planned for San Francisco and Chicago before settling in Los Angeles.
"Jackson-Dumont's departure was triggered by a 'new organisational design to split the current role into two positions'. This change reflects the evolving structure of the museum."
"Lucas and Hobson ultimately abandoned their Chicago plan and decided to settle on a parcel of land on Los Angeles's west side for the museum's development."
