Philip Tinari appointed as deputy director and head of art at Hong Kong's Tai Kwun
"I have been following Tai Kwun's growth over these years and am truly excited to be part of its next chapter,"
"I look forward to steering Tai Kwun Contemporary's programming, to driving greater engagement with existing and new audiences, to deepening and expanding its impact with diverse communities and stakeholders, and to raising its profile to the international art community."
"Philip's appointment is an exciting moment for Tai Kwun and for Hong Kong. His global outlook and ability to build cultural connections will bring fresh energy and support our long-term development. We're confident that his leadership will enhance the experiences we offer and reinforce Tai Kwun's role as a vibrant cultural destination for visitors from Hong Kong and beyond."
Philip Tinari, longtime director and chief executive of UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, will leave to become deputy director and head of art at Tai Kwun Culture & Arts Company Limited in Hong Kong. He will oversee programming at Tai Kwun Contemporary and shape strategy for the wider complex, which includes performing arts, galleries and restaurants. Tinari succeeds Pi Li, who had roots in Beijing's emerging art scene with gallery Boers-Li and later worked at M+. Tai Kwun is backed by The Jockey Club CPS Limited, which channels horse-racing revenues into arts and charitable enterprises. Tai Kwun leadership noted a 2018 collaboration with UCCA and Tinari for Tai Kwun's opening solo exhibition.
