Rob Reiner said he was 'never, ever too busy' for his son
"I was never, ever too busy. I mean, if anything, I was the other way, you know, I was more hands-on and trying to do whatever I thought I could do to help. I'm sure I made mistakes and, you know, I've talked about that with him since."
"He's been great hasn't been doing drugs for over six years. He's in a really good place."
"After 15 years of not working together, we came back and started looking at this and seeing if we could come up with an idea, and we started schnadling right away. It was like falling right back in with friends that you hadn't talked to in a long time. It's like jazz musicians, you just fall in and do what you do."
Rob Reiner promoted Spinal Tap II: The End Continues and collaborated with son Nick Reiner on the 2015 film Being Charlie. Being Charlie was a semiautobiographical story of addiction and homelessness based on Nick's experiences. The father character in that film appears torn between career aspirations and a son's addiction, but Reiner emphasized that he was hands-on, acknowledged mistakes, and tried to help Nick. Reiner said Nick had been sober for more than six years and appeared to be in a good place before a recent arrest after Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead at their California home. Reiner's career included acting on All in the Family and directing Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men, and Spinal Tap II reunites original collaborators after fifteen years.
