""The point is to address some of the systemic challenges that women face in the art world. By focusing on female-led galleries we felt there would be more of a lasting impact and legacy. We didn't want it to be a flash-in-the-pan tokenistic thing,""
""Bringing women artists felt like the right thing to do, because this is a celebration of women in the art world and that doesn't happen all that often,""
""A lot of art fairs can be competitive, but this is a real community. We've got a group of amazing powerhouse women in a room supporting each other.""
The art world is a pink-collar industry with women comprising an estimated 75% of the workforce, yet women remain underrepresented in leadership roles at galleries. Echo Soho is a new art fair created to tackle that imbalance by showcasing female-led galleries to generate lasting impact rather than tokenistic gestures. Most participating galleries presented work by women, with examples including Bea Bonafini paintings and a Rachael Louise Bailey installation that sold on opening day. Liminal Gallery from Margate exhibited Maud Whatley and Fipsi Seilern in coloured pencil. Exhibitors described the fair as affordable, accessible and a supportive community of women.
