Barbara Morgan, a Bay Area woman, is suing American Airlines following an alleged sexual assault by a male passenger during a red-eye flight. The lawsuit asserts negligence on the part of the airline, pointing out that the accused had prior allegations of similar behavior. Morgan reported the incident to a gate agent upon arrival, only to be met with victim blaming rather than support. She describes the assault as shocking and emphasizes the lack of flight attendantsâ presence during the flight, which prevented her from seeking help immediately.
Morgan explained in the suit that she couldn't alert flight attendants during the remainder of the flight because they did not do any walk-throughs and that she first reported the assault to an American Airlines gate agent after arriving in Dallas. Morgan said her accusation was disregarded and turned to 'victim blaming,' as the gate agent questioned why she didn't take action during the flight.
'You don't know how to react because you don't think it's possible,' Morgan told NBC Bay Area (KNTV) in a video statement. Morgan later added, 'It was dark and crowded. I froze. My body went into shock.'
