Catcher Ben Rortvedt, recently designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays, has cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Durham instead of opting for free agency. Having served between three to four years in the major leagues, Rortvedt was eligible to refuse this reassignment but chose stability over the uncertainty of the open market, despite forfeiting salary commitments. Although he struggled offensively this season, his past performance and defensive contributions justify the Rays retaining him as a non-roster depth option.
