Braves Minor League Recap: Conor Essenburg Returns from IL
Gwinnett Stripers fell 5-4 to the Nashville Sounds in a game marked by pitching control issues and limited offensive impact. Gwinnett’s pitching allowed eight walks, and strikeouts were scarce. Austin Gomber struggled in the first inning, allowing two runs on three walks and a hit, but later settled and threw strikes for the rest of his outing. Nashville did not hit the ball hard for much of the game, and soft singles later added runs. Gwinnett’s offense also struggled to generate hard contact, but fourth-inning walks created a scoring chance. Hicklen delivered a timely single to put Gwinnett on the board, and DaShawn Keirsey Jr. added a single to right field to cap a three-run inning and tie the game temporarily.
"Unfortunately, Gwinnett had the same issues with not hitting the ball hard, and they didn't always have the fortune of walks to bail them out of their woes. They were carved up in order the first time around the lineup, but a couple of fourth inning walks broke up the streak of good pitching and gave the Stripers a much-needed scoring opportunity trailing by three. Hicklen then came through with one of the hardest hit balls of the day, turning in a timely single to get Gwinnett on the board with a run. DaShawn Keirsey looped a single into right field to cap off a three-run inning, tying the game up for the time being."
