Several Atlanta Braves starts featured unusually poor results, often involving multiple homers and weak strikeout-to-walk ratios. Didier Fuentes lasted one inning on July 8, allowing three homers in a 10-1 loss despite a 2/2 K/BB. Bryce Elder on June 27 allowed three homers across two innings with a 2/4 K/BB in a 13-0 loss and produced a .661 xwOBA-against. Cal Quantrill surrendered four homers in 3 1/3 innings on August 28 and recorded a 0/0 K/BB in a 19-4 loss. AJ Smith-Shawver had a May 22 outing with a 1/3 K/BB in three innings that worsened when he faced the lineup a third time and issued two consequential walks, and an early departure later preceded Tommy John surgery. Carlos Carrasco allowed a homer in two innings on August 13 but the bullpen and offense erased the deficit as the team won 11-6.
"Didier Fuentes lasting one inning on July 8. Fuentes 2/2 K/BB ratio wasn't the worst ever, but he allowed three homers in the process and the game was basically over soon after it began, as it ended with a 10-1 loss. Bryce Elder on June 27, getting absolutely crushed by the Phillies. A 2/4 K/BB ratio in two innings, three homers allowed, and a 13-0 loss."
"Elder on June 27, as noted above. This was just the worst by far, with a hilarious .661 xwOBA-against. Carlos Carrasco on August 13 (.607). Amazingly, the Braves won this game as they pounded the Mets, 11-6, probably because they yanked Carrasco after two innings (2/3 K/BB ratio, a homer allowed); the "good" relievers allowed basically nothing for the rest of the game as the Braves scored 11 unanswered runs."
