Panelists look at the airport's future of 'perpetual' construction - Austin Monitor
Briefly

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is set for long-term construction to address growing air travel demand in Central Texas. Originally designed for 11 million passengers, it now serves over 22 million annually, with projections to handle 75-80 million in the future. Plans include constructing new concourses and upgrading existing facilities, particularly a second concourse parallel to the Barbara Jordan Terminal, aiming to increase capacity to over 30 million by 2040. A combination of funding sources, including municipal bonds and airline contributions, will support this nearly $4 billion expansion plan.
It's a delicate balancing act of: How do you finance it? How do you build it? How do you operate it at the same time? The need is there, the demand is there.
The airport has already surpassed 22 million travelers per year, more than double its capacity ahead of schedule, with plans to handle between 75 and 80 million annual passengers.
