Marc Ciria has announced his candidacy to run against current president Joan Laporta in Barcelona's elections scheduled between March and June 2026. Ciria pledges to bring Lionel Messi back to the club and wants legends to return openly rather than in secret. He calls Messi indispensable and insists any return must include a solid support system and structure. Ciria proposes a broad Messi–Barça partnership across commercial, institutional, sponsorship and La Masia development. Messi recently extended his Inter Miami contract to 2028, making a playing return unlikely, but candidates still aim to involve him in some capacity.
