Tourism protests are expected in major European cities this weekend
Briefly

On June 15, major European cities will witness coordinated protests against mass tourism, particularly targeting Barcelona, Ibiza, and Palma. Activists from the Southern European Network Against Touristification (SET) aim to draw attention to the adverse effects of tourism on local life. The protests, which have faced tension since 2024, encompass various locations where communities seek greater control over tourism's impact on housing and employment. Participants will gather in notable areas, including Jardinets de Gràcia in Barcelona and La Concha beach in San Sebastian, signaling a significant social movement across these regions.
"Tourists have been warned of potential disruptions caused by activist groups preparing a large-scale protest for June 15th," says Pablo Calvo, Spain Manager for travel operator Tours For You.
"The demonstration, organised by the Southern European Network Against Touristification (SET), will focus on major Spanish destinations, such as the Canary Islands (Lanzarote and Tenerife) and the Balearic Islands (Barcelona and Mallorca)."
