"People stopped in the corridors, pointed at jerseys, smiled, chatted. Shirts from every decade hang on the shoulders of fans, some with faded names on the back, others in bright colours - a sea of fabric that made the club's history visible. And that is precisely where its power lies. On this evening, the past was not something that is over and done with. It was present, tangible, right in the here and now."
""The Franz Beckenbauer Cup last year was such a success that we decided to revive the Legends Cup," explained CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. "This is living history today." The motto of 'Making history present' permeated through the whole tournament. It wasn't just about nostalgia and looking back. It was about bringing history back to life; not telling it but letting it play. What emerged here is not a look back from distance, but a conscious retrieval of the past in the present."
SAP Garden hosted 11,000 fans who displayed jerseys from across decades and exchanged memories of Wembley, World Cup summers and Champions League nights. Former players whose careers shaped football history appeared on the indoor five-a-side pitch, including Klaus Augenthaler, Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Klinsmann, Giovane Élber, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry. The FC Bayern Legends Cup featured guests from Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Juventus, Celtic and Eintracht Frankfurt and emphasized fast, direct, intense play. Organizers framed the event with the motto 'Making history present,' aiming to revive and enact historical moments rather than merely recall them.
