Sebastian Rudy talks why it didn't work out at Bayern Munich
"Unfortunately, it was only a year. I would have liked to have played for FC Bayern longer. But that always depends on the individual coaches and management. (It was) clear that I wasn't planned for the starting eleven, but that as a squad player I would get 14 or 15 appearances. In the early stages of the season, I also had a lot of playing time under Carlo Ancelotti. Unfortunately, he was soon dismissed."
"During preseason training in 2018, it quickly became clear that the new coach wasn't planning on using me. So, I had to take action. I didn't want to spend my prime on the bench."
"It's not just Schalke's fault that things went wrong - I certainly contributed to it as well. Nevertheless, I learned a lot from that period. I matured as a person and learned to handle pressure better. That toughened me up."
Sebastian Rudy spent only one year at Bayern Munich as a squad player, expecting 14-15 appearances annually. His tenure was disrupted by managerial changes: Carlo Ancelotti, who gave him significant early-season playing time, was dismissed and replaced by Jupp Heynckes, who reduced rotations. When Niko Kovač arrived in 2018, Rudy recognized he had no future at the club and transferred to Schalke 04. His move to Schalke proved unsuccessful amid internal club chaos. Rudy later returned to Hoffenheim but performed poorly and retired in 2023. Currently, he plays in lower-league football while working as a scout for Hoffenheim, aspiring to become a youth coach.
