Celebrating the Life of Jack McAuliffe
Briefly

Jack McAuliffe's journey into brewing began during his navy service in Scotland, where he developed a taste for British ales. Upon returning to California, he homebrewed and decided to open a brewery despite the unlikelihood that new American breweries could thrive post-Prohibition. In 1976, he started New Albion Brewing Company, utilizing repurposed equipment and focusing on unique flavor profiles. Although it closed in 1982, New Albion's innovative practices laid the foundation for modern craft brewing, inspiring many others to enter the industry.
"Jack was truly an American original. Before him, starting a brewery from scratch was thought impossible. After him, 10,000 people have done it."
"He showed a path from homebrewing to commercial brewing, proving that a basement passion could become a viable profession."
