The Violet Crown Amphitheater project, now rebranded as White Rocks Austin, aims to modify its initial proposal due to setbacks in 2022, including community pushback. The new plans cut the amphitheater size to 10,000 seats and involve multiple luxury facilities including condos, a hotel, and dining options, while incorporating a wastewater treatment system. Environmental concerns persist, particularly regarding the site's proximity to the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve and the adequacy of the wastewater permits. Community groups are wary of the environmental impact, calling current permits one of the most lenient in Texas.
The current modified plan includes six high-rise condo buildings, a hotel, a distillery, and more, alongside the controversial wastewater treatment plant.
Community Impact reports that the developer denied an amphitheater being involved at all with the new project, indicating further changes may come.
