Lady Fatou, born in 1957, is the oldest gorilla in the world and has lived at Berlin Zoo since 1959. She was given to a tavern landlady by a sailor unable to pay his bill. Fatou gave birth to Dufte, the first gorilla born at the zoo, in 1974. Despite her age, she remains in good health and has a private enclosure with dedicated staff. Fatou enjoys watching other gorillas play and has several descendants, including great-great-great grandchildren.
