'It's not secure yet' - Maglia ciclamino leader Mads Pedersen counting lost points with fourth-place sprint in Viadana
Briefly

Mads Pedersen has been performing impressively at the Giro d'Italia, securing three victories and maintaining a lead in the points classification with 177 points. Despite a recent fourth-place finish in stage 12, where Olav Kooij claimed victory and gained points, Pedersen remains optimistic yet vigilant about his lead as the competition tightens. The upcoming sprint finishes present further opportunities for point accumulation, and Pedersen is aware that his current position isn't guaranteed. His strong starts have included wins in the early stages, putting him in a favorable spot despite current challenges.
"It's not secure yet. There are still a few more sprint days with points on the line... It's not sure before we are in Rome," Pedersen said in an interview.
"This final doesn't really suit me. I'm not scared, but it's so fast, and riders are everywhere... and it's really hectic to do this," he said following the stage.
"In the end, a fourth place is really good. In this finish, it is all about speed, and the other guys were faster than me today," Pedersen commented on his stage 12 performance.
Pedersen and Lidl-Trek have had an outstanding opening week of the Giro where Pedersen won the stage 1 sprint into Tirana and claimed both the maglia rosa and maglia ciclamino.
