Jeremy Vine, a well-known cycling advocate, has decided to stop sharing videos documenting dangerous driving after facing severe online harassment and threats. His videos aimed to raise awareness about the risks cyclists encounter but garnered over 100 million views alongside an intense backlash from motorists. He noted that the online hostility affected him deeply, with threats that expressed wishes for his physical harm. Following a recent bike theft, Vine reflected on the toxic atmosphere surrounding his efforts, ultimately choosing to prioritize his well-being over continuing the videos, which had become emotionally taxing.
Vine stated, "I’m stopping my cycling videos. The trolling just got too bad. They have had well over 100m views but in the end, the anger they generate has genuinely upset me."
He noted a regular theme among online attackers was a desire to see him harmed, which he described as a very real danger to commuting cyclists.
