Luke Plapp downplays chances of the Giro d'Italia going Down Under in 2027 - 'It's going to be very hard'
Briefly

Luke Plapp, a cyclist from Melbourne, believes that the idea of the Giro d'Italia starting in Australia is impractical due to logistical challenges and insufficient local interest. Although Australian broadcaster Michael Tomalaris hinted at a potential start in Western Australia, Plapp remains skeptical about its viability. He points out that even if Western Australia is geographically suited for such an event, financial incentives and crowd attraction would likely fall short of Italian standards. Additionally, he highlights the jetlag issues for riders as a significant concern, making this idea even harder to realize.
I've seen it, it's impossible. I'd love to race in Australia... but I'm not reading into it too much. I think it's going to be very hard to ever happen.
Western Australia is the only place you could physically have it to be able to get riders somewhat into Italy a day later.
One, I don't think the money from Australia is probably worth going there, I don't think it's going to attract crowds like you see in Italy.
Asking riders to race after a long flight would be a big disruption, as it usually takes me at least a week to recover from jetlag.
